Learning Target: After various activities, I will develop and write a working defintion for a dependent variable, an independent variable, and the control group.
What we did in class today: The title in the notebook was VARIABLES. We made three columns labeled independent variable, dependent variable, and control group. As we did activties, I labeled the three items above and we wrote them in the proper column. Afetr four activties, each table group developed a definition of these challenging concepts.
If you missed class today:It would be difficult to make up the learning of today’s class. Therre are three new words on our class vocabulary list that you can record in your notebook under variables. Monday in class when we follow up with this activity, you will have to receive help from me or a classmate as we do a worksheet on understanding these three concepts. BE READY to be SHARP on Monday.
You also missed a quiz. Like most quizzes, your grade will be excused, but you are still expected to know ALL of the words for the next quiz.
Wednesday, Thursday September 12th – 13th (BLOCK)
Learning Target: I will develop a comic strip which will demonstrate the different steps of the scientific method.
What we did in class today:We took notes on the scientific method and went through a couple of examples before working on the final product.
If you missed class today: If would be helpful if you could record the notes from today. You can either borrow a classmate’s notebook or download the power point uploaded below. The knowledge we studied is crucial for this year, so please take some steps to ensure that you don’t miss out on this information.
Tuesday, September 11th
Learning Target: I will record original observations from my senses and develop questions to research those observations.
What we did in class today: We went outside and made observations for 16 minutes. We wrote questions from those observations and answered debriefing questions about the experience.
If you missed class today: We learned two new vocabulary words today – check the diciontary on the web page to write them down. We titled today’s exercise – “Starts with a question from your observations.” Take your notebook, give the next page that title, and sit down in one space outside for 20 minutes and write down as many observations as you can using as many of your senses as you can.
