Week #3 – September 19 – 23rd

Thursday, Friday September 22 – 23

Objective:  I will write a correct hypothesis, collect data, and identify variables for four field activities/ experiments.

SUMMARY OF TODAY: We did field activities outside where we were reviewing the concepts of variables and hypothesis.

If you missed today: If you are here either Thursday or Friday, you will have the gist or basic idea of what we are doing and have nothing to make up.  If you miss both days AND you do poorly on Monday’s quiz, then you should see Mr. Jamsa during AG or after school for assistance.  You will not lose points for not being here over these two days if you show understanding of the concepts

Wednesday, September 21st

Objective:  I will write a detailed procedure for how to do the basketball / gender challenge.

SUMMARY OF TODAY: We took a quiz on our learnings thus far this year.  We then wrote procedures for an imaginary experiment where we wanted to prove who would be able to shoot more paper baskets into a trash can, boys or girls.

A good procedure is like a cookie recipe.  It describe in detail what was done in an experiment so the person doing it after you will do it exactly like you did.  It should be A) contain a materials list B) be loooooon and booooring C) have diagrams/ pictures.  There is a fine line between being specific and giving too much needless information.

If you missed today: Borrow a classmates notebook and copy down their work.  Use that to help you with the homework which is due Friday.  See the HOMEWORK page for details on that assignment, and check with Mr. Jamsa if you have any questions.

You need to see Mr. Jamsa during AG to make up the quiz as well.

Tuesday, September 20th

Objective:  With my elbow partner, I will write a testable hypothesis for the Mind Reading Demo.

SUMMARY OF TODAY: We discussed critical thinking and how we know a source of information is true no the internet.  We concluded that lesson with a Haiku about critical thinking.

We then opened our notebooks to page 20, Title “Hypothesis/ Mind Reading.”  I showed a demonstration of how I could “read a student’s mind” in class.  The class wrote testable hypothesis to try and determine how the trick was done.

If you missed today: Borrow a classmate’s notebook.  Copy down everything they did today, including the critical thinking questions and the mind reading notes.  Show Mr. Jamsa your notebook when you have it and he will give you credit.

Monday, September 19

Objective:  I will use critical thinking skills to determine a REALISTIC way to help the endangered Pacific Northwest Octopus.

SUMMARY OF TODAY: We did the lesson the web site.

If you missed today: Go to the Classroom Assignments tab above.  Follow the instructions.  Show Mr. Jamsa your notebook when you are done
